Coin update

It was a busy day today as we cleaned away as much sand as possible during the hot weather.  I’ll post mosaic updates very soon but in the meantime, Simon Esmonde Cleary had a look at our coin on Friday evening.  After much thought, Simon decided the coin was minted in the reign of Claudius II (AD 268-70).  This is two years earlier than we had thought and we were very pleased as the coins of Claudius II and Tetricus I are very similar.  Simon also reminded us that the coin could have been in use for as much as forty years and that it was worth about a dozen eggs!
